Modernism Week in Palm Springs just keeps growing. It is in it's sixth year and celebrates the architecture, design and culture of the from the 1920's to late 1970's. The history is interesting since architects like Albert Frey, Donald Wexler, E. Stewart Lacy, William F. Cody, and John Lautner, to name a few, came to the desert to ply their craft. Most of the homes have been lovingly renovated with their pedigree in mind. This is the week the city residents get to show them off.
The open floor plans, floor to ceiling windows, and slanted flat roofs seem more in trend today as the homes open to stunning views of the mountains and desert.

Marrakesh County Club, above, was designed by John Elgin Woolf, a master of the Hollywood Regency style. Today many designers and a few architects have purchased homes in this 364 attached villa enclave setting off a renaissance of modern design. It is amazing what can be done to the units without adding on which is a tribute to Woolf who had such a keen sense of space. The ten foot ceilings, large closets and perfect room sizes have made the villas more popular today and ever.

Wish I had better photos but above it a taste.

Palm Springs and certain parts of the valley are perfect for the new twist on traditional or modern rugs, furniture and fabrics.
